Sizwe IT Group appoints a new female non-executive board member

ITWeb - Centurion, 26 April 2017

Sizwe IT Group, one of South Africa’s leading integrated ICT solutions provider, recently appointed Geraldine Mokgethi as its latest female non-executive board member.

Mokgethi’s appointment aligns to Sizwe IT Group’s absolute commitment to gender equality, women empowerment and economic transformation in South Africa.

Reverend Dr Vukile Mehana, Chairman of Sizwe IT Group says, “We’re delighted to have Geraldine on board. She’s a strategic thinker and astute business leader who was previously instrumental in identifying, designing and leading development initiatives for various organisations and established corporate businesses.”

Mokgethi has a solid background as a BBBEE expert, and is passionate about achieving transformational success, whilst maximising corporate performance results in challenging complex business environments.

Sizwe IT Group is committed to growing the number of females serving on its board and at operational level. It associates itself with organisations that support and promote women's economic empowerment and participation.

“Sizwe provides a wide spectrum of ICT services and solutions to a long list of prominent companies across South Africa, and it’s therefore imperative that women’s empowerment take centre stage in our governance as we progress towards the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) in closing gender gaps,” says Dr Mehana.

While accurate numbers may not as yet be confirmed, it’s an indisputable fact that women already have made significant contribution to global development in all areas of life.

And even though most of them have not received loud accolades for their contributions, women in South Africa continue to charge as community leaders, state leaders, board members and CEOs, influencing the trajectory of business and governance.

Dr Mehana adds, “Entrusting responsibility to Geraldine, is therefore done with full measure of trust and confidence.”

Mehana says Mokgethi’s appointment is also in alignment with the new BBBEE ICT charter, which was introduced late last year to monitor the transformation of the sector by implementing the BBBEE sector code.

The charter was, among other things, set up to bridge the digital divide by promoting access to ICT, promoting the effective implementation of the BBBEE Act, and to stimulate and support growth in the sector.

“It remains one of Sizwe IT Group’s key focus areas, to help bridge this digital divide and promote access to ICT across the country. We will do this with increased business operations and expansions, optimum performance and results with cost management, efficacy, and consistency in product and service delivery,” concludes Dr Mehana.
